“Not all those who wander are lost.” said JRR Tolkien, and I sometimes wonder whether he got it right.

I’ve habitually wandered and, equally habitually, gotten lost. But, it’s precisely at these times that I’ve had some of my most memorable travel moments. Plans are out the window, the shit’s splattered thickly on the fan, your ass is lush green grass but, somehow, all’s well with the world. Because, in my experience, that’s when you meet the most interesting people and see the most interesting places – the ones you’d never have encountered if you’d signed up for that package tour whose main draw was that it had an Indian cook preparing pure vegetarian food. And which promised that, tomorrow, you’d get to see where Dev Anand danced in the Alps.

Screw it, unless you take me to the waterfall where Mandakini had her wet-saree moment. And, that too, when she’s there.

I know this is a long shot but is there any way perhaps to reach out to him?
